Legal Aspects of Tactical/SWAT Operations

This course delves into legal liability issues effecting tactical operators. Officers will learn the elements of civil and criminal liability that face tactical operators. Given a variety of law enforcement scenarios, officers will be able to articulate how to lawfully execute a search or arrest warrant in accordance with the U.S. and New Mexico Constitutions. Officers will also learn the legal aspects of the timely and effective use of force within the totality of circumstances based upon what is objectively reasonable in accordance with the U.S. Constitution and the U.S. Supreme Court case Graham v. Connor (1989).

Course open to all New Mexico LEOs. This Course will cover advanced legal topics specifically effecting SWAT operators.
